Racing has a critical role in the history of autonomous vehicle development. When DARPA hosted the Grand Challenge in 2004 and 2005, it paved the way for many researchers to form businesses out of their lab projects. The leads of our team, Anthony Navarro and Rana Khalil, also met while participating in the Self-Racing Cars autonomous vehicle race in 2017.

We believe events like this spark inspiration, create lifelong bonds and partnerships, and address complex challenges that will one day provide solutions to critical problems off the race track. Autonomous vehicle racing allows solutions to autonomous mobility problems to be explored in closed course, safe environments while pushing the limits of performance in both computation and vehicle dynamics. The Indy Autonomous Challenge is a perfect example of this type of environment and competition, and we are excited to demonstrate our capabilities while contributing our solutions.
